Future Set in Stone for Dromore Entrepreneur
A young Dromore businessman has a rock-solid future carved out for himself after being named one of the North's most promising entrepreneurs. Mr Adrian McGovern receives his award at the Livewire Entrepreneur Awards Ceremony in Belfast along with Ms Pamela Ballentine, UTV Live and other representatives of Livewire
Adrian McGovern (27)-proprietor of McGovern Granite and Stone-picked up the accolade at the recent Shell LiveWIRE Business Start-Up Awards held in Belfast.
The prize is just the first stepping-stone for the young craftsman, who branched out and set up his own business last August.
After picking up the tricks of the stonemason's trade from his father, Adrian began his career erecting headstones in graveyards throughout the area.

But just last year he decided to divert his skills and expanded into carving stone signs and name plaques.

Working with a combination of Irish limestone, and granite from as far away as India and South Africa, the young craftsman has created a range of sculptures at the family business premises at 44 Tummery Road.

Examples of his skills can be found throughout the Tyrone and Fermanagh areas, including the recently erected memorial at the site of the famine grave in Irvinestown, Co. Fermanagh..
Speaking to the Herald this week, Adrian said at the moment his business was in the very early stages of development but plans had been drawn up for expansion in the near future.
"We hope to expand the workshop and look at different ways of promoting our products. And as the market becomes more specific, we also hope to supply to the likes of architects and planners."
"Through our recently installed computer system, we plan to advertise on the Internet, but that will probably be down the line a bit", he added.
Last week's Shell LiveWIRE awards were sponsored by Shell UK, NIE, LEDU and the European Regional Development Fund.
And before reaching their decision, the judging panel scrutinised each finalist's business plan, as well as conducting interviews to assess individual business acumen, potential and long term business viability.

Congratulating Adrian on his achievement, Shell LiveWIRE area manager, Nicole Mulholland said the judges were very impresses by his submission and thought his business had real potential. "Adrian's enthusiasm and ability make him a real LiveWIRE" she added.
