Local Granite and Stone Business Unveils Unique Millennium Cross
McGovern Memorials Dromore have been chosen by Fermanagh's Knockninny Parish to undertake and complete a momentous Millennium Project.

Rev. Fr. Gaffney, of Derrylin, approached McGovern Memorials with the task of marking the 21st Century in his Parish with the erection of a special Millennium Cross in honour of the parishioners- past, present and future.

Following many months of planning and preparation by the local company, the Millennium cross, located high in the new cemetery, overlooking the church and its county, was set in place at the beginning of December.

The unusual style of the Cross replicated one donated to the Parish in the 18th Century, to commemorate a Redemptionist Mission. It was carefully designed and crafted from sandstone transported from Co. Down.
The cross stands proudly on top of a rounded dry stone base and is complimented with an inscribed Donegal granite plaque.
Within this base an innovative time capsule, containing present day artefacts and parish lists and statistics, has been locked away for future generations from Knockninny to uncover in years to come.

The project is one of many different areas of work in the granite and stone business, which the successful McGovern company is involved in. It is hoped that their many years of expertise, innovation and skill will lead them well into the next Millennium.
